Fenerbahçe president, Ali Koç, acknowledged that he would be delighted to have Mesut Özil in his ranks. However, he admitted that due to financial reasons, his possible signing seems almost impossible.
Mesut Özil’s contract at Arsenal runs out in June 2021. Despite Arteta not counting on him, the idea of the player is to hang on till summer to be able to decide what his next destination will be.
Meanwhile, in Turkey, they are dreaming about having him. That is where Özil’s parents come from and Fenerbahçe want him.
Ali Koc, president of the Turkish club, spoke about that possible signing. “Right now it’s a dream. If we don’t sell players, we won’t be able to bring in any signings in January. We need new reinforcements for several positions. Mesut Özil is on the agenda since we made a campaign to raise money for the club”, he acknowledged.
And he knows that the footballer would also like to try there: “Mesut Özil is a fan of Fenerbahçe. He likes our club very much. He was also on the agenda at the beginning of the season, but it is very difficult”.
“Our club is not now in a position to deal with a transfer of this kind. It would be a difficult dream to make reality. It is a complicated dream, but a dream after all…”, he said in statements collected by ‘AS’.
