The Portuguese had a contract until 2025 and he has now extended it until 2027. Ruben Dias has needed just one season to show people the quality he possesses and become of the best central defenders there is in the world of football. Man City have already renewed him.
As well as an increased salary for the Portuguese defender, Dias joins until 2027, two years longer than his current contract, which was signed last summer. He joined the Sky Blues from Benfica for around 60 million euros.
“Delighted to extend my stay,” Dias said after putting pen to paper before adding: “I’ve enjoyed every minute of my team at the club since I joined last year.”
Ruben Dias played in 50 matches in all competitions and won the Premier League and the Carabao Cup as well as helping Man City reach the Champions League final for the first time.
Dias’ individual importance was also recognised by the fact he won the Football Writers’ Association’s Footballer of the Year for 2020/21. He was also Man City’s player of the season and the best Champions League defender for 2020-21.
“Playing for Man City has exceeded all my expectations and it’s an absolute pleasure to form part of such an incredible team,” Ruben Dias said. He hopes to do even better this season than in his first season under Guardiola.
