It was only a matter of time and now it has been confirmed. Emerson Royal has left Barcelona and he is now at Tottenham.
After starting in Barcelona’s victory over Getafe on Sunday, Emerson is no longer a Barca player. The 22 year-old, who joined from Real Betis in the summer, would have had a lack of first team opportunities because of Sergino Dest and he has decided to move elsewhere. He leaves Barca with three appearances to his name, one start and a total of 90 minutes played.
The footballer has four caps for Brazil and the move is subject to “international clearance and a work permit.” Spurs are reported to have paid around 30 million euros for the player. The North London outfit have confirmed that he will wear the number 12 shirt and that his contract will run until summer 2026. They also confirmed that Emerson will travel to London later in the week.
Royal will get the opportunity to play European football at his new side as Tottenham are in the group stages of the new Europa Conference League. They will play alongside Rennes, Vitesse and Slovenian side Mura in group G.
Emerson could make his debut for his new club away to Crystal Palace on 11th September at 13:30 CEST.
